New Construction
Preparation is the key to a successful and long lasting paint job.
All trim boards and fascia boards should be primed on all edges. Also where the carpenter cuts the boards the raw edges should be primed. This protects the wood much better from its most dangerous enemy, WATER!!
All finish grade plywood sheeting that is to be painted should also be back
primed.
All rough and semi-rough grained wood should have the primer sprayed and
rolled or rolled on. This provides better penetration of paint. This gives a
solid base for the finish coats to go over.
Back rolling wood is essential. Paint does not fill cracks or work into
wood when just sprayed on. It just builds up on the fibers and never gets to
the solid wood below. By brushing or rolling on paint it forces paint past
fibers and down to solid wood for better adhesion. This gives the look of
solid coverage and provides a solid base for the finish coat. Thus this one step
can add many years to the life of your paint job.
After priming all sanding, caulking, and putty work should be done.
After all this has been done properly, you have a smooth even surface ready
for finish coats to be applied.
On rough surfaces you may need to back roll at least one finish coat to
provide solid coverage and a professional looking finish.
Repaints
- Exterior
A bleach solution should be applied to mold, algae, or tannin stains, then
building will be power washed. After building has dried then rough areas will
be sanded and the building will be spot primed or completely primed as needed.
After priming all cracks will be spackled or caulked as needed. The
first coat whether primer or finish coat will be sprayed and back rolled for
solid and even finish. Next coat will be sprayed on. If needed it will be back
rolled for quality professional finish.
